The Mexican rainbow gathering

---------- Forwarded message ----------
From: Gerald on the Yahol Group [ymna2] The Mexican rainbow gathering.
[Follows up on an earlier posting which was blogged here also]

The Mexican rainbow gathering was formally titled the "Intergalactic rainbow experience". It was held between 24th of November 2007 and the 21st of February 2008 at El Desengano, near Las Choapas, Veracruz. The site was on the Nanchital River downstream of the confluence with a tributary variously known as a "blue river" or "crystal light river". This is on account of its remarkable and intense blue coloured water. The tributary emerges with some force out of the ground at the base of a high cliff. This place is considered to be sacred with significant spiritual values and was about 1km away from the encampment. The Nanchital River, for the record, has a green colour. The gathering was a little unusual as it lasted two months and included in its objectives the concept of setting up there, or in the vicinity, an intentional eco community which would serve as a model for the implementation of rainbow ideas. This reflects a trend evident more outside the USA for rainbow people to be more pro-active and less inward looking and engage with the people. It is significant that the group responsible for scouting (site identification and for the various prep work) were the Nomadsunited horse caravan, a group of young people, actively spreading the ideas of environmental sustainability, community and peace in South and Central America. The gathering attracted 150-200 people and was affected by flooding at one point. Another point of difference was that the event was held on private land of a local cattle farmer. Rainbow gatherings are "clothes optional" and this was no different. Skinny dipping was very popular in the Nanchital River. There tends to be less nudity in Rainbow encampments themselves and male only. Woman are often topless. This was reflected in "Past lives regression" workshop held on 12th of February , where there was some male nudity . None of the women participants were naked except that some were bare-breasted. It should be noted that the right to be naked also has a spiritual dimension. Often this is illustrated by, but not restricted to, some appearing naked at Circles. At the Mexico gathering, for instance, on the 5th of February, a group all naked, bar one, opted to pay homage to the natural world (Mother Earth) at the place where the "blue river" was "born". A picture of some of this group has already been posted.
